Clinical Evaluations

I offer assessments and documentation for a variety of situations:

Emotional Support Animal Assessments

An Emotional Support Animal (ESA) is a companion animal that provides therapeutic benefit to people that have a diagnosable mental health condition. They do not require special training like service dogs, but are expected to be trained like any animal companion. To designate an animal as an ESA, you need a letter from a mental health professional. An ESA certification then offers specific specific legal rights, specifically including housing and transit.

Animals can be a wonderful addition to our lives. Sometimes, connection with an animal can directly impact and support mental health needs and a support animal can be a part of an active care plan. I have training and experience in the process of evaluation, documentation, and navigating the world with a companion animal. I can provide assessment and documentation to determine if you qualify for having an ESA.

What this involves:

I offer 1 hour, single session evaluations unless specific complexity arises that we choose to address further. We meet, I will write up any relevant information, and if I conclude that you meet the requirements for having an ESA I will provide you with documentation one month after our assessment. During this period we can follow up to provide updates and review experiences as needed.

Immigration and Asylum Evaluations

The system for immigration in the United States can be complex, and challenging. I provide evaluations and documentation in a variety of contexts to support people working on immigration status (Asylum, VAWA, cancellation of removal, etc.) . I have been trained by HealthRight 360 and have provided numerous evaluations for more than a decade in a variety of contexts.

What this involves:

I typically schedule a 2  hour evaluation either all at once or over two meetings. We meet, I will write up any relevant information, and provide you or your legal team with documentation. I will coordinate with your legal team if you have one, and I am available for testimony for court proceedings if that is needed for your process. I am also happy to work with interpreters, and can sometimes provide one if we need one depending on our language needs.

Gender Affirming Documentation

Many systems (insurance, medical) require or request documentation from a psychologist as you embark on your gender journey. This documentation can involve letters assessing readiness, or completing insurance or program paperwork for a variety of affirming procedures. These requirements often include invasive or very detailed questions and reviews of many different life areas, and I aim to reduce as many barriers as possible while recognizing my position as a gate keeper. I embrace informed consent models for gender affirmation procedures, and can provide assessments and letters that adhere to WPATH guidelines and include any specific insurance or other system requirements.

What this involves:

I offer 1 hour, single session evaluations unless specific complexity arises that we choose to address further. We meet, I will write up any relevant information, and provide you with documentation. If you need addendums or date-updates in the future, those are included in the process.
